Strange Happenings In White Falls - Page Four

Loralon makes no move to step towards the family, but continues his searching inspection of the man and his encampment. "How true good sir. We were just wondering what you and your family are doing out on a day like this." He pauses a moment, not looking away from the man but still seeming as though he is looking all around him. "Can we be of any assistance? Oh where are my manners, I am Loralon- protector of the woodlands (among other titles)" He bows slightly to the man, watching his reaction, "and this is my companion Sedric. Would you be gracious enough to share the warmth of your fire with my companions and I. Sedric - could you go retrieve Riordan?"

Sedric looks at Loralon a moment, then turns on his heel and goes back to the main body of the group. In a few moments, the rest of the party approaches the family.

Sedric looks to the father and looks questioningly at the man. "Why would you make camp a mere 20 minutes from a warm dry tavern?" He peers at the rest of the family, perhaps to ensure that they are not injured, and waits for his response.

"I beg you're pardon, m'lord, but this is unfamiliar territory to us. We were unaware of this tavern that you speak of. Praps if the innkeep invested a bit more into advertisin' we might've known." the man seems satisfied with his abrupt answer.

"Well, this weather is not fit for man or beast, much less a child like your boy. I have taken a room at the inn, and would offer it to you free of charge so that you could warm yourselves and perhaps have a hot meal." Sedric offers the man his key from Riordan's rest while Riordan himself seems to be trying to calm his nerves at the man's impertinent comments.

"Ach, we couldnae impose ourselves upon ye like that. While tis true the weather has been a bit harsh, twill do the boy some good to learn the harsh realities of life fer a commoner like ourselves. We barely had time to gather our small belongings afore the noise of the beast came to our town."

Loralon smiles warmly at the man and continues his questioning. "What town do you hail from, then, my good man? And please, your names if you don't mind. We are actually looking into the matter of this beast."

"Well, we hailed from White Falls up until three days ago, when a terrific beast came through the village during the night. It was a great lucky thing that I couldnae sleep due to the stew not agreeing with me or we'd of all been lost like our friends and kin. We had just a few moments when the attack started to dash away from our home, leaving everything behind but what we had in our beds and on our backs."

Loralon's slender pointed ears perk up at this news and he can but barely hold back the barrage of questions that must be assaulting his brain.

Aura moves tenderly up beside Loralon and looks softly upon the family gathered before her. "M'lord, M'lady, Little Master, might I inquire if you were harmed in the attack?"

"Ach, ye kin do away with that formal greetin', m'lady, the name is Kolgrave, Emmerson Kolgrave, this here is ma wife Lassery, and this is ma boy Blanchert. We weren't hurt, but the boys not spoken a word since we escaped White Falls. I thank ye all for yer concern and kind generosity, but we've a mind to start over in the next town we come to, and we won't be takin' charity ta get there." He takes a step back and places an arm around his wife and child.
